Suggested segments
UpdatedYou might not always know what data and conditions will best help you segment your audience. Now, when you need to create a new segment, we offer suggestions based on your industry, the kinds of attributes you store in your workspace, and the events you capture.

We’re slowly rolling this feature out to everybody. If you don’t have access to it yet and you’d like to try it out, contact us and request access to the Suggested Segments feature.
How it works
Building meaningful segmentA group of people who match a series of conditions. People enter and exit the segment automatically when they match or stop matching conditions. conditions to capture the right members of your audience can be hard. To help you out, we use publicly-available data about your company and non-personal data in your workspace to suggest segments for you.
These segments can be a helpful way to get started or even just provide ideas of segments you might want to use to message the right people in your workspace.

We do not use your audience’s personal information in suggestions
To suggest segments and generate segment conditions, we use publicly available information about your business and the information you see in your data index. We do not use personally identifiable information (PII). We only use the names of attributes and event properties. We do not use the values of attributes or event data in our suggested segments or any of our AI-related features.
For example, imagine you have people in your workspace with first_name
attributes. When we suggest a segment, we’ll know that you gather people’s first names, but we won’t pass anybody’s actual first name (the value of the first_name
attribute) to an AI, language model (LLM), or any other service to help suggest new segments.
AI-generated suggestions improve as you populate your workspace
If you have a new workspace with relatively few events or attributes, our suggestions might not be terribly helpful. But, as you populate your workspace with more data, our suggestions will get better.
Get segment suggestions
Suggested segments are only available when you build a new segmentA group of people who match a series of conditions. People enter and exit the segment automatically when they match or stop matching conditions. on the Segments page. You won’t see this option if you try to create a new segment from inside a campaign.
- Go to the Segments page.
- Click Create Segment and check out the Suggested Segments.
- Click a suggested segment to see the conditions for the segment. Read the conditions carefully and adjust them if necessary to make sure that your segment captures the right people.
- When you’re done, click Save Changes.
Before you use your new segment, make sure it contains the right people!
Check a segment before you use it
While we’re happy we can suggest segments that you can use, you know your data better than anyone. You should make sure that your segment has the right conditions and contains the right people before you use it!
After you use a suggested segment or use the Generate with AI feature:
- Go to the Overview tab for your segment and check the People graph. Does it look like your segment has the right number of people?
- Go into the People tab and spot-check a few members of the segment. Are these the people you expect to find in your segment?
