Geofence dwell time: message people who stay, not just people who pass by

Messaging Mobile SDK

Geofences now support 'dwell times': you can choose how long people need to stay inside a geofence before you message them, and see how long each visit lasted when people leave a geofence.

Entering a geofence doesn’t always mean someone is visiting. People drive past your store, cut through a parking lot, or wait at a light near your venue. Now you can set how long a person needs to stay inside a geofence, like 10 minutes, and our mobile SDKs let Customer.io know when they’ve stayed that long. Location platforms call this dwelling, so you’ll see it as a dwell event and a Dwell time setting on each geofence. You can use dwell events in automation triggers, segments, Wait until delays, and exit conditions, the same way you look for geofence enter and exit events.

Exit events can now also include how long a person stayed inside a geofence. This helps you see how long people spend in your locations. You can even trigger an automation when someone leaves your store after more than 20 minutes, or build a segment of people who spent at least an hour at your venue.

Your app needs one of these SDK versions to send dwell events and visit durations:
