TikTok Conversions Destination

Updated

About this integration

Our TikTok Conversions destination is a server-to-server integration with the TikTok Events API. It helps you submit source data to TikTok that’s processed like information collected through TikTok pixel and TikTok SDK business tools. This lets you use your source data in dynamic showcase ads (DSA), custom targeting, campaign optimization, and attribution.

Before you get started

The TikTok Conversions destination uses the TikTok Events API. To use the Events API, you’ll need to generate a TikTok Pixel Code and Access Token:

  1. Create a TikTok For Business account.
  2. Create a TikTok Pixel in Developer Mode to obtain a Pixel Code. For more information about Developer Mode, see TikTok’s developer documentation.
  3. Follow instructions for Authorization and generate a long term Access Token.

Getting started

  1. Go to the Data Pipelines tab and click Connections.

  2. Click Add New under Destinations.

  3. Select the TikTok Conversions destination.

  4. (Optional) Select the sources that you want to connect to this destination. You can always connect sources to your destination later. We’ll only show you eligible sources.

  5. Configure your destination.

    1. Access Token: Your TikTok Access Token. Please see TikTok’s Events API documentation for information on how to generate an access token via the TikTok Ads Manager or API.

    2. Pixel Code: Your TikTok Pixel ID. Please see TikTok’s Events API documentation for information on how to find this value.

FAQ & Troubleshooting

Deduplication with the TikTok Pixel

If you independently placed the TikTok Pixel on your website, reach out to your TikTok representative to see if you need to change your Pixel to properly deduplicate events sent through both the Pixel and Data Pipelines.

Match Keys

To increase the probability of matching website visitor events with TikTok ads, send one or more of the following keys and identifiers when possible.

  • TikTok Click ID
  • External ID
  • Phone Number
  • Email
  • IP Address
  • User Agent

Other Standard Events

If you want to send a TikTok standard event that we don’t have a prebuilt action for, you can use the Report Web Event action. For example, if you wanted to send CompleteRegistration events, you would:

  1. Create a mapping for Report Web Event.
  2. Set up your Event Trigger criteria for completed registrations.
  3. Input a literal string of “CompleteRegistration” as the Event Name.

Be aware that TikTok only supports select event names.

Hashing Personally Identifiable Information (PII)

We create a sha256 hash of the following fields before sending to TikTok:

  • External ID
  • Email
  • Phone Number

Web Diagnostics

In addition to our own Data Out tab, You can check if your integration is working is working, test events in real-time, and troubleshoot common issues in TikTok’s Web Diagnostics Suite. See the TikTok Pixel Web Diagnostics documentation for more information.
