Upgrade from 4.x to 5.0.0
Version 5.0.0 of the Android SDK requires Android 7.0 (API level 24) or later and updates the Firebase, Google Play services, and WorkManager libraries that the SDK uses.
What changed?
Version 5.0.0 changes the versions your app needs to build with. You don’t need to change your code.
- Android 7.0 (API level 24) or later: The SDK’s
minSdkis now 24. If your app needs to support API levels 21 to 23, stay on version 4.x. - Newer libraries: The SDK now brings in
firebase-messaging26.0.0,play-services-base18.11.1, and WorkManager (androidx.work) 2.12.0.

WorkManager 2.12 also changes its default executors and worker parallelism. If your app schedules its own work with WorkManager’s default configuration, check WorkManager’s release notes for details.
